Today on my way to work I saw a awful accident, I didn't see the actual impact but I heard a bang and when I looked round to see what had happened I see a car screeching to a stop and a body flying from the bonnet through the air for about 5 yards and then hitting the road and scraping for another 5 yards.
The person who had been hit was not moving, I can't beleive what I have just seen and I start running towards the person . I shout to a onlooker to help me and he, he shouted back " Do I call 911". I shouted back, " No you need to call 999".
I got to the person who still wasn't moving, when I got close I could see their face, it was pale and I also noticed a pool of blood forming near their head. my first instinct was not to move the person, with the impact of the car then the road it was a good bet to say that they could have a back injury and me moving them could make it worse.
The person was still breathing but very faintly , I needed to see if they were consious so I asked if the person could hear me, I heard a very faint moaning sound and I saw a slight movement. my next instinct was to make sure that I kept the person awake, I didn't want them to slip in to unconsciousness, she was loosing a lot of blood and was loosing color, and the could go in to shock so I needed to keep talking to her. by this time a few people had gathered round and I also realized I was in the middle of a busy road with the woman who had been hurt.
The person who had hit the girl in the car had come over and was stood looking and was so upset, and was saying that she didn't see her, I told her to try to keep calm, there was a lot of panic and people was stood all around looking. A van pulled up beside us and the driver said, that he was a fireman and that he could help, I asked him to help me. just seconds after he got out of the van a lady came running up with a blue top on and putting on some gloves. Right behind her were blue flashing lights, Help had arrived. I stood up and let them get on with their job.
I walked to the lady who had hit the girl and asked her if she was ok, she was very shook up, I told her to come to the side of the road with me, she said she didn't want to leave the girl but I told her that we needed to get out of the way and let the paramedics do their jobs.
We got to the side of the road and it's then when I heard the girl screaming, and the paramedics telling her to lay still. The woman told me her story about what had happened, she was so upset and I gave her a hug and told her to try not to worry and that the girl was in good hands, at that point the lady's husband came and the woman thanked me.
I don't know who the girl was or the woman that hit her, but I do hope they are ok and that the girl makes a full recovery and I hope I did the right things to help them both.

How awful Wayne. Seems to me you did the right thing by being there. You kept calm and helped as much as you could. I hope everyone is OK too.
I'm proud of you for helping as much as you could. I love you.
Wow, it must have been so scary to witness that. I definitely commend you for jumping right in and doing everything that you could to help. They always talk about how so often in situations like that, people just walk on by, not even because they don't care but because they don't know what to do or they wait for someone else to help. Well I guess you are that someone. The world needs more people like you, Wayne.
